anglo-saxon

Shield, Son of Sheaf, was a good king who was feared but had respect from others. He also had a son named Grain. When he died, Shield was sent in a boat filled with gifts and treasures. Grain ruled the Danes a long time after his father's death and to him was born the great Healfdene, fierce in battle, who ruled until he was old. Healfdene had four children-- Heorogar, Hrothgar, Halga the Good, and a daughter who married Onela, King of the Swedes. After Hrothgar became king, he won many battles, and his childhood friends became famous soldiers. So Hrothgar decided to build a mead-hall.

One night, after a beer party, the Danes settled in the hall for sleep. Grendel went one night and killed the great warriors that were sleeping in Danes hall, until no one would sleep there anymore. Later Grendel would sleep in the king’s hall, and the king was trying to kick him out but couldn’t. The King of Danes went to ask for help. Beowulf heard of this slaughter and set sail to Denmark to help the king with his problem. When Beowulf got there, he revealed himself to the protector of the cliff and asked him to lead him to the king so he could talk to him. Later, Beowulf talks to the king and feasts until sunset. Beowulf gets prepared to battle with Grendel. The night came when Grendel went inside seeing one of the warriors sleeping and ate him up then he got to Beowulf. When he was about to bite him, Beowulf got behind him and grasps him with his strong hands. Grendel, who was desperate to get out of Beowulf’s grasp, tore his arm off and ran.

Now that Beowulf won victory against Grendel they had a feast with wine. Hrothgar gave Beowulf horses and weapons, telling Beowulf to enjoy them. As they drank wine at the feast, dark came and every one went to sleep. The guards went to patrolling the hall like usual. Later on that night Grendel’s mom came in and kills the main chief of the Danes and takes back Grendel’s famous hand. The next morning the king was mad about the attack that happened last night and asks Beowulf to find the monster and kill her. Beowulf agrees to find her. When he went to find Grendel’s mom he had to go through courses that led him to her. Beowulf swung at her with the sword, but the sword was useless and didn’t cut her. Then she grabbed Beowulf with her claws and threw him to the ground. She tried to stab Beowulf with a dagger, but the armor kept the dagger from stabbing him. Beowulf got back on his feet and found a giant sword. He grabbed it and swung at her that led to the death of Grendel’s mom. Beowulf saw Grendel sleeping because he was worn out from the fight he had with Beowulf. Beowulf remembered how he killed fifty men and cut off Grendel’s head.

After the battle with Grendel’s mother Beowulf went home and became king for fifty years. In the last of Beowulf ruling king, there was a dragon that was a gold-keeper. That dragon would have treasure in his cave and would protect it from intruders. Till one day an intruder went to the cave of the dragon and took a gold cup while the dragon was asleep. When the dragon woke up he smelled an intruder and went angry flying through the villages and burning every village he encountered with. Till Beowulf was fed up with this problem and went with his crew to faces this dragon for one last battle. When he was fighting the dragon he was surrounded by fire and his soldiers see him need help, but instead all but one ran to the forest. Woehstan is the one who helps Beowulf defeat the dragon but also lost Beowulf life as well.

2."Beowulf, son of Ecgtheow, spoke: "Do not sorrow, wise king! It is better for a man to avenge a friend than mourn much." He is trying to say that the king experience sorrow and as his friend, Beowulf would help seek revenge from the massacre that went on in the meat-hall, displaying his loyalty to the king.
"To him the cup was carried and friendship offered in words. Wound gold was kindly bestowed: two arm ornaments, shirts of mail, rings, and the largest neck ring I have heard tell of on the earth." To him the cup was carried to show that they were thankful and respectful of Beowulf’s kind deeds. They bestow him with presents to show their gratitude to their warrior culture, which Beowulf represents and is the centerpiece to Anglo-Saxon, culture. Part 9 in the episode of Beowulf the monk tells a story of a dragon being a protector of treasure. In the Anglo-Saxon culture, they had the dragon, Thor, who is usually the protector of treasure or warrior graves.

3."You know if it is true what we have heard, that a dark enemy in the nights works violence and slaughter on the Danes . . .. Perhaps in kindness I may advise Hrothgar how he, wise and famous, may overcome this enemy-- if change will ever come, relief from this evil-- and how this seething sorrow might become cool. Otherwise, he will suffer tribulation as long as he lives in that high place, the best of houses." In Beowulf, here he is talking about if it is true that a dark enemy is attacking the Danes at night that he would help the king solve the problem if god lets it be. Like the hero spider-man he senses evil with his spider senses and he fight the bad guy.

4. When Beowulf dies he dies for something that wasn’t his cause. The reason I say this is because Beowulf usually fights for the people, like the time he fought Grendel and Grendel’s mom. He fought those creatures for the people because the people of Danes were being slaughtered so Beowulf went to solve the Danes problem.
When Beowulf in his last battle with the dragon he is in his 80’s or 90’s and battles because some thief stoled an item from the dragon causing the dragon to attack different villages. But Beowulf don’t look for the thief, he goes and fight the dragon and when he does fight the dragon he dies at the end with pride.

Dark Romantic

1.Nathaniel Hawthorne's didn’t believed in transcendentalism because they believed that people's thoughts and intuition were the voice of God. Nathaniel didn’t believed that because his great grandfather was one of the judges in the Salem witchcraft trials during Puritan times that put nineteen people and two dogs to hanged, and one man was crushed to death by stones all in the name of God. So he thought of his great grandfather a minister and a judge who sentenced people to cruel deaths because other people accused them of being evil.
Herman Melville didn’t believe in transcendentalism, because they believed that everyone was absolutely pure and that each individual is a part of God. Melville didn’t that because he witnessed many things he would not have seen at his home in New York. One sight that reportedly effected him severely were the cannibals he saw in the South Pacific and thought to him self would a man who witnessed people eating human flesh agree that everyone was good and pure.
Edgar Allen Poe got terrible addictions to opium and alcohol. He was getting probably insane. They saw that people could be evil, insane, unpure, or generally not 100% good like the Transcendentalists thought. Unlike the Transcendentalists, they believed in original sin, and that it was responsible for the evil that existed inside of everyone.

2. I would go with dark romantic because like they say not all that speak with their mind is the voice of gods it is the action one is taking for themselves. Like Nathaniel great grand father hanged people because the public would say they are evil. Melville who witness cannibals eating other people. And Poe who went insane.

4. In the beginning Poe has a favorite cat named Pluto and he’s play with the cat all the time but them later when started to drink heavily the cat started to be afraid to get near Poe. One day when Poe was all drunk and wanted to grab it. When he grabs the cat, the cat bites Poe and Poe gets angry and cuts one of its eyes. Next day he hangs his cat because he knew the cat loved him and he had cut out his eye. One while he is asleep his house burns down, but Poe and the rest managed to get out before it burned down.
After it burn down he sees that the only thing standing was a wall that had a cat draw in it and when he was drunk late at night he found a cat just like his, but his cat didn’t have white fur that look like the hang man hook. He took the cat home because it reminded him of his cat Pluto. Poe started at first to like the cat but then he ended hating the cat because the cat would be always around Poe’s wife. One day the cat made poe trip and poe got and grabbed an axe try to kill it but his wife interfered. Poe got angry when his wife interfered and hit her in the head with the axe and he walled her up with bricks.
The story is a good because it shows how dark romanticism is different from Transcendentalism. Like the part were Poe is drunk and the cat bites him he cuts out one of the cats eyes out, that is dark romantic. In transcendentalism They believed that the individual human mind was one of the most powerful instruments in the world, and that the individual mind was connected to all others through what was known as the "oversoul", a collection of everyone's soul that we all share.

Poe when he is writing the poem he writing when someone knocking on the door and he goes and opens up the door but know one is there. Second time he opens the door he gets spooked because a raven appears before his eyes and the raven represents his sadness. All poe really wants is to have a happy life and leave the past in the past. The Dark Romantics believed that everyone has a little bit of evil or insanity in them and The Transcendentalists thought everyone was good and pure.

Poe was a lonely and depressed from all the death that he has seen throughout his life. Everyone he cared for didn’t care about him and the people who did care about him ended up dying. Like all his wives ended up dying, so it looks like he had a bad luck history. His poem was hard to understand but what said in it was good poem. Allen Poe was sad and depressed man if he could have one of his still alive and not die like the rest he would not be as bad depressed as is now.

Transcendentalism

In the nature Emerson talks how he sees nature and gets lost in that place that he blends in and I think that is good because people could use that so they won't get nerves in a presentation in front of people. They could blend in with the crowd so they won't get nerves.
The nature is a Transcendentalism because Emerson think that being connected to nature and you could transparent yourself to it then your also connected to god.

In the self-reliance I like the way he talks about how you should be individual, speak what you feel is being connected to god because your speaking what god is saying to you and not the voices of the people around you.

Self-reliance is a good transcendentalism because in the story it talks how one should speak what he has in mind is what god is saying to you in your mind and not the crowd around you, and to be brave to speak what you think and not be a coward and not say nothing.
In resistance to civil government Thoreau refuse to pay taxes because he thought that the tax money would go for Mexican war and was sent to jail for refusing. After all, the practical reason why, when the power is once in the hands of the people, a majority are permitted, and for a long period continue, to rule, is not because this seems fairest to be in the minority, but because they are physically the strongest. They believed that the individual human mind was one of the most powerful instruments in the world, and that the individual mind was connected to all others through what was known as thoverkillul, a collection of everyone's soul that we all share.

2. Chris, a college senior, has just been accepted to the best law school in the country. His parents, Sheila, his wife, and his brothers and sisters are very excited for Chris since he has wanted to become a lawyer for his entire life. Chris isn't so excited though. He has realized that he would rather be a high school teacher than be a lawyer. Chris would have to go back to school to get his teaching certificateChrisrs' wife is not exactly thrilled with this idea since she has been looking forward to the salary Chris would make as a lawyer. With Chris' new plan, she would have to pay for Chris' additional schooling. This is an example of transcendentalism, because he speaking what is in his mind and that is being a teacher. They believed that the individual human mind was one of the most powerful instruments in the world

American Romanticism

1. Rin van wrinkle was a simple good-natured man; he was, moreover, a kind neighbor, and an obedient hen-pecked husband. He was a great favorite among all the good wives of the village, who, as usually gospel with the women. The children would be shouting with joy seeing ran van wrinkle, because he would play sports with him, make their toys, taught them to fly a kite, shoot marbles, and told them stories of witches, ghost, and Indians.

When he went dodging through the village, he would be surrounded by group of them, holding on his shirt. Not one dog in the village would bark at Rip Van Wrinkle.
He would never refuse to help a neighbor even in the roughest soil, and was the only one who knew how to grow Indian corn or help build stone fences.

The women in the village would also ask rip van wrinkle to run some errands, and do some small chores. Something that their husbands wouldn't do for their wives. He would help any one but himself, but doing his chores at home to keep his farm in organized.

2. Romanticism thought imagination was important. Because in rip van wrinkle the part where he went to the mountains and seeing some elves, drinking their magic drink you would have to imagine about when he saw the elves or when he would sleep for 20 years Rip van wrinkle wasn't sophisticated he still accomplished his tasks

3. It talks about if your going to die come outside and listens to nature. When you die you'll become part of the elements in the earth. Yet you will never be alone you'll be with others that live before you. It is romanticism because it the imagination and the level that's people could come up to be king or queen.

4. The point of this poem is about imagination of how this person working in a place where they make string. He used his imagination to show what is rope used for different things for example in the part Two fair maidens in a swing, Like white doves upon the wing, First before my vision pass; Laughing, as their gentle hands Closely clasp the twisted strands, At their shadow on the grass.


5. the picture show a place far from the cities into place that a person would like paradise, because romanticism is about imagining things that come to mind like this pictIre. i choose this picbecausecuase that live in a city that is loud they look at this picture and imagine that there in a place peace and quite like the one in the picture.

Ciudad Juarez one of the most dangerous cities for a women now a days


The city of Ciudad Juarez is not a good place to live especially for women now a days. Women are getting killed and physically tortured day by day. It very sad how some of these women get tormented and killed. Personally I wouldn’t like my family members or loved ones living in a city like Ciudad Juarez. It’s been going on for years, but until now the Mexican authorities are starting to stop these crimes by pressuring the government and United States government. The reason why the government of the United States is getting involved is because girls from the United States that crosses the border to party in the clubs or a friend’s Birthday Party. They’re also making a movie about these massacres of girls being killed. Here I have some stories and news of what they know about the killings of the girls.

Since August, 1993, the Mexican Federal government has been trying to solve these kinds of cases of girl being raped and killed in the streets of Ciudad Juarez. The Local women's rights groups said that from 1993 till now at least 187 women have been raped and killed by pimps, drug dealers, husbands and boyfriends. Some of those deaths remain unsolved or have no suspects or evidence. The Ciudad Juarez police said that 30 of those cases are from several serial killer and rape young women for the fun. The United States has had between 50 and 70 cases fit into rape-torture-murder profile. FBI agents has visited Juarez to solve some of those cases, but weren’t successful in finding any evidence suggesting there was a serial killer that was doing these killing to young girls. Authorities know what kind of girls do the serial killer picks out there victims of how they look, because most victims were small, dark-haired girls between 14 and 18 years old that would go to work in one of the U.S. owned Maquiladora factories. Many are killed on their way to and from work. Police said they would find these young women’s bodies with their blue factory aprons on. Dumped in the desert or next to the roads near the city. The victims’ bodies would sometimes have some of their parts cut off or would be disfigured so know one could identify. Objects would also be sometimes stuck in the young women’s vaginas or anuses, and their left breasts have been cut off. Many of the girls are strangled, then stabbed repeatedly and others would be found with their hands tied behind their backs. Some of the women’s wouldn’t have their panties on, even though they are still dressed. Several men have been arrested in connection with the killings, but are still investigating till today.

In November 2001 the police authorities from Mexico found three women bodies and later found five more in a cotton field near the Anapra shantytown near the city Ciudad Juarez. After they found those discoveries. Ex-Chihuahua Attorney General Arturo Gonzalez Rascon found two suspects murderers in less than a week. The two murder suspects were Bus drivers Victor Javier Garcia Uribe and Gustavo Gonzalez Meza, both 28. Police arrested them and asked them about the murders of the women and later confessed to raping, torturing and killing the women for fun.

Until today autorities are still investigating with the help of the u.s government to find ways to stop these crimes and find the ones responsable for those killing. Also the victims parent are pressurring authorities to help stop theses crimes that could happen to other young girls. My best advise is not to let your young daughter go to ciudad juarez by herself, but go with a group of family til they could get control over the killings of the women.

Rationalism


1. In rationalism they believe that anything bad that would go on they could understand it with doing research of science. In Puritanism that anything bad would happen they would think it is god punishing them for they did no have right to do god work. Today in Puritanism if something bad happens to you like a car accident, they think its god punishing you. In rationalism if lightning struck a house they use science to figure out what cause it.

In puritans: the brother wants him to just stay at his printing house and work, but in Rationalism: Benjamin Franklin has bigger ideas of using his work and leaves his brothers printing house.

4. Snitch- never snitch on a person just gives you problems.

8. Trust- don’t trust nobody not even your shadow.
9. Work- working in a place where your experience.
10. Friends- keep your friends close keep your enemies closer

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. In rationalism they put that everybody is equal and everyone has certain rights. In Puritanism you don’t have does kinds right of equal people.
That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. In rationalism they believed through science if their government don’t work, they would try a new one. In puritans they believed that the government comes from god.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpation, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. In rationalism if the government is abusing you, you could over throw him and put a new government to do better. In puritans you can’t over throw the government that was given from god.
